#SNCLavalin Redux – Just fucking say we have balls and we did it

The Ethics Commissioner’s report came out today and said that Justin Trudeau violated the ethics code. Of course, the Canadian cable media has latched on, analyzing the blathering of the leaders of the CPC and NDP, as well as the “apology” of the Prime Minister.

The usual partisan bullshit abounds. NDP talking heads decry the horrible breach of process. CPC preachers assure Canadians that this is a horrible sin and Trudeau should resign just before dousing himself in gasoline, self-immolating while committing sepukku. Liberals defend the PM, trying to balance like graceful weasels on the fence.

Of course, the core of the discussion is how this “historic” event will impact the election. “Unless I’m missing something, @JustinTrudeau just lost the federal election,” tweeted former Liberal and now general ne’er do well Warren Kinsella.

So averse to anything even remotely related to risk, our soft-spoken Prime Minister lost the opportunity to win the election today. With one statement, he could have told the truth and changed the perception of his political enemies. All he had so say was,

Of course I pushed Jody to help SNC-Lavalin. And I would do it again. Any time I have the chance to save thousands of jobs by breaching a rule with a $500 penalty, I will. Here is a cheque for $500. Canadians, if the other parties say they would not do the same, run the fuck away from them. The don’t give a shit about you.

And yes, when Jody would not play ball, you bet your ass she was not long for the Justice Minister job. We live in the real world.”

One strong, straightforward statement in his life. Would it have killed him? Now, we have to suffer this interminable babble that passes for political analysis.
