Things We Wish We Could Say Out Loud – Ghomeshi Trial

After reading so many articles about the misogyny inherent in the Ghomesh acquittal, here are some things I wish we could say aloud.

The women WERE NOT RAPED!!!!! They were slapped around. Not nice. Not right. But not enough to go to trial over a decade later!

Women ARE NOT HELPLESS INFANTS!!!!! A few slaps cannot account for major lapses in memory or untruths. If it does, society truly has to reconsider the idea of equality between the sexes.

Conduct after the event DOES COUNT!!!!! Honestly, if a woman says no and the man stops, that is good. If the woman does not say no and then offers to come back for another visit, SHE IS CONSENTING. And that infers that the first time was not a problem.

Women are equal to men. That should be axiomatic. But that also means that they should not get special treatment or lower expectations. If they are assaulted, they should report it in a timely manner. Waiting years is a problem and IT SHOULD CAUSE DOUBT.

One time offenses are not the same a long-term assaults or rapes. Both sexes can suffer major trauma from long-term assault. NOT FROM A SLAP OR CHOKE THAT ENDS IN SECONDS OR MINUTES!!

Very likely more later.
