Things We Wish We Could Say Out Loud – Judy Wilson-Raybould Scandal Shows Trudeau’s Feminism is Real and It Bit Him in the Ass

There are times I want to cancel my news subscriptions and delete my links to social media. After weeks of the Jody Wilson-Raybould, SNC-Lavalin and Justin Trudeau “scandal”, I find myself wanting to turn off all the inputs.

Let me be clear, this story is an excellent example of a truly feminist story. The government wanted to get a result and pushed its appointed Attorney General to use whatever legal tactics she could use to get that result. They offered her resources of many sorts to protect her from any negative feedback. They did not call her out in public or push her under the bus. Eventually, they took her out of the AG position, replacing her with a qualified person who might be more of a team player. Even then, she was not removed from the heady heights of Cabinet but was moved laterally to Veterans Affairs.

All along the way, Ms. Wilson-Raybould was consistent, responding that she had made her decision and that was the end of the story. Any questioning of her legal and political wisdom was inappropriate pressure and bullying.

I am not sure how Ms. Wilson-Raybould could have been treated more delicately. Were she not a woman and an indigenous person, I suspect that the AG position would have been shuffled long before. But she is a woman and an indigenous person, so her role as a Cabinet minister was more than her job but as a highly important token and virtue signal.

What could have stopped this scandal? Looking at it now, the best solution would have been to shuffle Ms. Wilson-Raybould last September to another position, or out of Cabinet completely. But because it was 2018, I suspect nobody believed that they had such a problem in the AG position. Too bad, as the missed opportunity has come back to bite Justin Trudeau and his entourage in the ass.
